A dream achieved

The Bible. A book of books! And a wonder at that! Charles Spurgeon’s thoughts on the book were that, “Nobody ever outgrows Scripture; the book widens and deepens with our years” and I can honestly resonate with that.

Eugene Peterson the author of “The Message” Bible, also wrote a book titled, “Eat this Book – A conversation in the art of spiritual reading.” The Bible is a book to be read. A book to be studied. A book to be enjoyed. And it is a book to be devoured. For me, it is a book that gives and brings life! Every page and every word on every page has been ‘breathed out by God’ [2 Tim 3:16]. For every stage of life, for every circumstance, for every moment, for every single situation we find oursleves in, the word of God, The Bible, is relevant.

I have had the beautiful privilege of growing up in a family that holds this book so dear. I have a heritage of godly men and women who have served the Lord with their whole lives, surrendering to the word of God and obeying the commands of the Lord, penned in the pages of the Bible. Recently I was re-shuffling books at home, and grouped together a pile of Bibles which have been gifted to me over the years. All have been gifted to me to mark a milestone, or celebrate a life-event. My dedication, my graduation from Pre-school, my 12th birthday gift from my great-granny, my first overseas school trip, my 18th birthday-a gift from my parents. I was gifted my great grandfathers Bible on my twenty-first birthday – the key to life – from my parents, and my husband and daughter gave me my current- used Bible for Christmas in 2018. It is a book of great price and I treasure these gifts so very much.

Treasures

As a follower of Jesus, the Bible is part of my everyday life. I read it for a living, if you like. Sometimes I read a book as a whole, sometimes a passage is ministering to me and I remain there for a season. Sometimes one verse of a Proverb or a Psalm is all I can get through in a day. Three years ago, a dear friend of mine ignited a deep passion and desire for the WHOLE word of God in me and I set myself a goal to read through the whole Bible. I found an AMAZING reading plan called Read Scripture and it transformed the way I looked at my dream of reading every word of this wonderful book. My initial goal was to complete this in a year, however, I have sometimes been captivated by a book or part of a book, and ended up camping in that particular book and studying it further. Sometimes for even up to a few months. BUT today, 23 August 2021, I read the last few chapters of the book of Revelation and I am so excited! A dream which became a goal has now become achieved. I am richer, stronger, more alive and more in love with this book than I was 3 years ago.

If you want to read through the whole Bible and don’t know how to start, head over to Read Scripture, download the app, and set it to your own pace, and begin the most wonderful journey of reading the most beautiful book. It will change your life! And please drop me a line to let me know how it’s going. I would love to hear from you.
