Tending the garden

This weekend we had some time to get some much needed work done in our garden….my husband eagerly pulled out weeds and pruned some plants, pulled out some dead leaves and twigs and then dug up and turned all the soil. My daughter and I helped a bit here and there, but mostly watched him doing such a great job!! Needless to say that our little garden looks so neat and tidy, so green and so cared for! Our Day Lillies have been flowering each day for the past 5 days, the complex gardeners mowed the lawn today, and it just feels GREAT!!

This morning I was led to read in Matthew about the sower and the seeds, and how the sower sows the seeds and some fall on the road and get eaten by the birds, some fall on the rocky places and can’t take root, so they don’t last long and some fall on good, turned and cared for soil and thrive!!! And as we know this parable is talking about the word of God as the seed and our hearts condition as the soil…..and the more receptive, cared for and open our hearts are to his word, the more GREAT we will feel as we look at our thriving lives (garden) and the fruit that is blossoming in it (flowers, fruit, colour, fragrance and LIFE!!!) but we need to take the time to firstly prepare our hearts (the soil) and then listen to the word of God (the seed)!!!

And in thinking of all this I am reminded that my daughter and the little, exuberant life she is living, and her mind are also all like fresh, prepared soil. I have such a privilege and responsibility to plant and sow GOOD seeds into her and to assist her to GROW & BLOSSOM & to feel GREAT!!!
