I consider myself independent. I consider myself capable, but there are times that I just want to be led. I just want somebody to tell me where to go or to take my hand and take me there.
I find this verse so reassuring that in those moments, I can depend and rely on God to lead me. And not just in the moments when I’d really like somebody to take the lead, but in all things and every detail of my life, God leads and guides and directs. He determines my steps and He is the one I follow. The response to being led, is to be willing to follow. Are we willing to be led by the creator of the universe and more importantly, are we willing to follow?
The beautiful second part of this verse states that God leads us beside still waters. He is a God of order, of calm, of peace, and so it makes perfect sense that He would lead me along quiet spaces and calm avenues and still waters. The original Hebrew says waters of rest. God desires us to live in wholeness and freedom and His sacrifice of Jesus has proven how far He would go for our sake. How far he would go to bring us to a place of rest, a place of peace, a place of calm.
Let’s be led by the lover of our souls to still waters of rest!
