John 15:5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” {ESV}
I am not a wine drinker, but I have always enjoyed the road trip from KZN to the Western Cape and the beauty of the vineyards that shoulder the road. The green patches of farmlands amongst the usually dry, dusty brown landscape can be breath-taking.
The branches of these grapevines can only grow and bear fruit by remaining attached to the trunk of the vine . The grapevine trunk can only grow by being sustained by light, water and the nutrients of the soil it is planted in.
This scripture from John encourages us that as we choose to remain in Jesus, the true vine, and as we abide in and dwell with Jesus, He will keep us and sustain us, and enable us to grow and bear fruit. In Him we will thrive, even if the landscape we find ourselves in is dry and dusty!
Something I have recently become aware of, is that vineyards actually thrive and grow best in that dry, dusty, brown landscape! As we are surrounded by the pandemic of the Coronavirus, and what seems like a dry, lifeless, hopeless landscape, let us keep our eyes on Jesus and continue to dwell with and abide in Him, not only to survive this season, but to grow, bear fruit and thrive!
Sending much love from my home to yours.
