Stand firm, Step up, Stand in solidarity

As I write this, South Africa is ending day 4 of lockdown due to the Coronavirus. It’s been a whirlwind, it’s been a dream, it’s been still, it’s been uncertain. Us as a family just got into a rhythm of a new normal, and now it’s “back to virtual school” tomorrow, but not quite “back to reality!”

I have been reading the book of Daniel and chapter 3:17 & 18 reads, “If this be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.”

Most of us know the story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego (or My shack, Your shack and a bungalow as we used to say as kids) and how they refused to worship the image which the king of the time had created and therefore were thrown into the fiery furnace. These three men Stood firm on the truth to worship God alone. They did not shrink back and give in to the laws and decrees passed by man, but they Stepped up to stand for the Living God! They demonstrated unwavering surety and security in God and were completely confident that God would deliver them from the torturous consequence to their actions. They also Stood in solidarity and remained loyal to each other, as the verse reads, our, we, us! And we all know how the story ends. God himself walks among them in the furnace and brings them safely to the other side.

Right now, we are facing uncertainty. We are facing a changing world, a changing system and way of doing things. We are facing the unknown. But we are facing them with our King!

I am confident to STAND FIRM in the Lord and to listen to and obey His voice at this time. I am determined to STEP UP and demonstrate my loyalty to my God no matter what and I am encouraged to STAND IN SOLIDARITY with my family, friends, neighbours, people of God and nation, as God brings us safely to the other side of the Coronavirus!

Much love to all of you in lockdown xxx
