Anticipation and Adoration!

24 December. Day 24.

This has been the most beautiful journey reading through the book of Luke this advent season, anticipating the celebration of Jesus’ birth. The word of God is something I value and something I read with awe and wonder as the Holy Spirit reveals more and more of Jesus to me.

Today’s chapter is a celebration! It’s the hope of a resurrected King, born as a helpless babe, who came to seek and save the lost. This profound mystery was, to some degree, a reality for those of Bible times and I love this account of Jesus as he joins two humans on the road to Emmaus. My heart resonated with verse 32 of chapter 24. It reads, ” They said to each other, “Weren’t our hearts burning within us while he was talking with us on the road and explaining the Scriptures to us?” ” {CSB}

As I look back over this month, that is my exact thought, didn’t my heart burn within me as Jesus opened up the scriptures to me? My heart has been set ablaze as Jesus has enlightened me anew to his birth, life, death and resurrection. He has revealed afresh the glory and wonder of Christmas! He has reminded me how significant, simple and special Christmas is. He has renewed the awe and magnificence of who He is and what He has done, how He changed History and how He is still orchestrating my future. He has positioned my heart in a posture of anticipation. And my response is adoration! Oh come let us adore Him! He is Christ the Lord!

I leave you with this, from Dr. Seuss, as you celebrate the real meaning of Christmas this year.

“It came without ribbons.

It came without tags.

It came without

packages, boxes or bags.

Maybe Christmas, he thought,

doesn’t come from a store.

Maybe Christmas, perhaps,

means a little bit more.”
