23 December. Day 23.
The final stretch! 2 days to go! Christmas is coming!
This morning as I read Luke chapter 23, one verse and actually just the last sentence of that verse leapt out at me, and funnily enough, its Luke 23:23. ( I like it when patterns and things appear like that!)
Let’s read it from a few translations of the Bible:
“But they kept up the pressure, demanding with loud voices that he be crucified, and their voices won out. “ {CSB}
“But they were urgent, demanding with loud cries that he should be crucified. And their voices prevailed. “{ESV}
“But the people and the high priests, shouting like a mob, screamed out at the top of their lungs, “No! Crucify him! Crucify him!”
Finally their shouts and screams succeeded.” {The Passion Translation}
“But they kept at it, a shouting mob, demanding that he be crucified. And finally they shouted him down. “ {The Message}
What voices are we listening to? What voices are we allowing to be a persistent influence in our lives? Whose voices are we giving the loudest platform to? And whose voices are we paying the most attention to?
The voices of this crowd were so persistent and so loud and so demanding that eventually Pilate responded, OK FINE!!! Unwillingly, he gave in as ‘their shouts and screams succeeded. ‘ {TPT}
Let us choose the voices that will succeed and the voices that will prevail in our lives day by day.
