I have had the most wonderful privilege of spending a night away with some girls this weekend at the beautiful, restorative Indigo Fields in the Natal Midlands. We had a day of pampering yesterday in an idyllic setting of rolling hills and mountains. We were served all three meals in a different setting at the retreat venue and enjoyed the warmth of a fire place during breakfast and dinner. It was a little piece of tranquility and peace in our lives as moms, working girls, wives, friends and just woman!
This morning as I hopped into the shower, which is positioned on the outside of my suite, and has a wall of windows looking out into the bush, I noticed an ugly looking black spider on the far wall of the shower. My initial thought was, “oh great, now I can’t enjoy my shower as I’m not sure when this thing is going to pounce on me”. As the water started to spray a little, he became restless and then started darting up and down. While carefully watching him, I tried to enjoy my shower. Eventually he darted towards me and I darted to the other side of the shower head, and then he froze as he had gotten caught in the small pool of water around the drain hole. Slowly I watched as he froze, and then his legs started to contract into what looked like a strangely beautiful butterfly. Eventually he got washed down the drain and I could enjoy the rest of my shower “in peace”.
As this happened, I was reminded by my Father God that I don’t always have to intervene (kill the spider on first sight) and also there are times when the things that I fear the most could become and develop into something “strangely” beautiful!
I enjoyed the remaining part of my shower in freedom, grateful that God “worked it to my good”!
