Our garden has been in desperate need of our attention and with the last few months being as difficult as they have been, it has not entered onto the priority list for way too long. So this weekend we decided was d-day and time to get stuck in. My husband literally just attacked the beds, removing weeds and dead twigs and leaves and heartening the plants and flowers. We then watered it all down, and then my husband took a big fork and dug up all the soil and allowed air and sunlight to penetrate into the flower beds once again.
As I was sitting with our daughter watching my husband at work, my mind was thinking over the fact that our lives and our hearts are like the flower beds in my garden. Left and neglected for even a short period of time, the flower beds become overgrown, cluttered by dead leaves and old plants, overgrown bushes and lots of weeds. And the same with us, if we don’t tend and take care of our physical beings, our inner beings and our hearts, our minds will just be clouded by clutter…cluttered thoughts, emotions and spiritual ideas…our bodies will be under-nourished, over-weight, out of shape and un-fit, and our hearts will be heavy and broken. So let’s look after ourselves so that God can speak clearly to us, and direct our paths in His ways.
